Bridport Ladies A teams title hopes in the County League ended as they were well beaten 57.31 overall at Moonfleet. It all went wrong before the match when their Atherley star Pat Cornick had to pull out at the last moment with a back problem. Pamela Daters, Margaret Pestelle, Sue Walsh and Annie Legg started well but finally lost 18.27. Lyn Craddock, Barbara Jenkins, Francis Hewett and Margaret Clapp found their opponents on great form as they went down 13.30. They now have to travel to the Dolphin (Poole) and beat the champions elect to claim runners-up spot.
In their National Ladies Pairs area final match Daters and Clapp went down to a Taunton Deane duo. The match hinged on two ends with Daters and Clapp holding five and four counts before the Taunton skip saved the day with her last wood.
Bridport’s B team ended their season with a 33.35 defeat against Moonfleet C. Joan Griffiths, Janet Tattershall, Jenny Harding and Liz Walker came from 9.12 down to win 20.17 for two points, Erica Sarson, Anne Parkins, Barbara Jenkins and Millie Meech were 10.4 ahead, but a poor second half left them beaten 13.18.
Mike Long just missed out in his County singles and pairs semi finals. Having beaten some good opposition on the way, he was beaten 21.19 in the singles and with veteran Brian Rumble 20.18 in the pairs.
