Bridport Ladies A team lost their crucial top of the table clash against the Dolphin (Poole) 37.39 overall after a dramatic finish. At the halfway stage Dolphin were cruising to an easy win as Lyn Craddock, Ann Turtell, Pat Cornick and Margaret Clapp trailed 4.18 and Pamela Daters, Margaret Pestelle, Sue Walsh and Annie Legg went from 8.2 ahead to 8.13 down. Clapp’s four fought back to finally lose 14.21, before Legg’s four looked to have turned the match on its head as they hit a purple patch with 184.108.40.206.1.4 counts to put Bridport two ahead overall with one end left. It all went wrong though as Dolphin scored a four count to pick up the four extra points for an overall win, leaving Bridport with just two points.
Bridport B picked up maximum points against Dorchester C to keep their promotion hopes alive. Tracy Marley, Anne Parkins, Barbara Jenkins and Sheila Nicoll and Sylvia Fletcher, Pat Cowmeadow, Erica Sarson and Jenny Harding 26.17, 24.17 up respectively.
Bridport picked up their first points in the Wessex League after Roy Nicoll, Roger Cowmeadow, Martin Grier and Bob Taylor finished with a four count to win 19.18 for two points against Dolphin’s crack side. Phil Hedges, Brian Walsh, Bob Hill and Mike Fletcher just missed out as they went down 16.17. At Poole Barry Mapson, Dave Roberts, Ken Giles and Ken Enticott also went close, losing 20.23, Mike Long, Mike Parsons, Ken Sanger and Brian Rumble never got going, dropping 0.14 behind after just five ends.
