Bridport ladies A teams title hopes suffered a blow as they were unexpectedly beaten 40.51 overall away against Dorchester B. Francis Hewett, Lyn Craddock, Pat Cornick and Margaret Clapp picked up two points with a 28.17 win, thanks to big seven and five counts but Pamela Daters, Margaret Pestelle, Ann Turtell and Annie Legg had an afternoon to forget as they were thrashed 12.34.
Bridport’s men’s team are still looking for their first win in the Wessex League, this time defeated by Five Rivers (Salisbury). Mel Hargett, John Boxall, Marin Grier and Bob Taylor secured two points with a 27.16 home win and Barry Mapson, Phil Tattershall, Brian Wlash and Phil Hedges were well ahead early on before their opponents fought back to square the match at 20.20 with one end left, with a one count on the last end giving them the points. At Salisbury Brian Rumble and Ken Sanger’s rinks losing by 12 and 18 respectively. Giving Five Rivers 14 of the 16 available points.
