Bridport kicked off their winter season with a nail biter against Taunton in the National Mixed Knock Out competition for the Egham Trophy, winning 72.70 overall. Francis Hewett, Mike Long, Pat Cornick and Chris Thorne and Lyn Craddock, Bill Payne, Margaret Clapp and Brian Rumble went down 15.19 and 13.24 away. But Millie Meech, Martin and Stephen Grier with skip Annie Legg, and Margaret Pestelle, Bob Taylor, Ann Turtell and Brian Conisbee won 21.13 and 23.14 at home to see Bridport through to play Dorchester in round two.
Legg’s four finishing with eight shots over the last three ends.
As expected Bridport lost on all four rinks in the Wessex League to Moonfleet, who will undoubtedly go on to qualify for the play off stage.
Against Bournemouth Mike Craddock, Ken Enticott, Mike Long and Chris Thorne had a great win 15.11 win away for two points, while Mike Parsons, Dave Roberts, Peter Hunt and Brian Conisbee just missed out on another two losing 18.19 at home.
With these two tough matches out of the way Captain Chris Thorne will be looking to pick up a couple of wins in the remaining matches.
