21st July

Bridport Indoor Bowls Club Scarlet's took the maximum points against the Royals in the County Summer Open League winning 34.25 overall - leaving both teams mid table on thirty one points.  Joe Lofthouse, Andy Spiller and Ann Turtell defeating Bob Hill, John Burwood and Jenny Harding 16.15, Paul and Mike Fletcher and Phil Godfrey beating Jackie Godfrey, Paul Hallett and Andy Marsh 18.10.

Steve Smith, Steve Fincher and Burwood's Tigerwoods have taken over top spot in the Clubs Morning League after a 16.8 win over Five Tops.  Gordon Lee, Rob Spiller and Thelma Pratt's Top Bananas are two points behind with a game in hand after a 13.11 win over Kestrels.  Adrian Legg, Rose and Chris Everest's More Fruits knocked Balloons off of top spot winning 14.5.  Chris and Colin McBain and Heather Thomson's Lotties Lot won a thriller 10.9 over Sylvia's all stars.  A 1.2.11 finish gave Chris and Sandra Barette and Hugh Rees's Harriers a 12.10 win against the Devils.  Jackie Godfrey, Dave Aylott and Malcolm Holt's Strollers beat Bandits 19.8.

Arthur Stone, Chris Thorner and Mike Fletcher's Peanuts have a three point lead in the Evening League, defeating 4 Peas in a Pod 13.11.  Les and Sharon Heath and Phil Hedges' Pirates drew 12.12 with Roy Koerner, Legg and Aylott's More Greens to stay second.  Hill, Kevin Ackerman and Marsh's Spurs are third, defeating Devils 9.8.  Laurence Henry, Kevin Moys and Nick Edwards Wrong Bias and Jackie Godfrey, Chris Lamble and Rees's Optimists 19.9 and 22.5 up against Bubbles and Shadows respectively.

14the July

Bridport’s Mixed Friendlies side spent a very enjoyable afternoon at the Axminster Outdoor Bowls Club despite losing 67.58 overall.  Axminster's Indoor Club closed a few years ago now and spokesperson Brian Baker said it was great to meet up with many old friends from past matches between our Clubs.  The weather could not have been better, and this will now be an annual match.

Lorraine Hill, Mel Hargett and Brian Baker took top triple award winning 24.15.  Bernard Perry, Gordon Lee and Phil Godfrey drew 12.12.  Ron Hill, Jackie Godfrey and John Burwood and Mike Cash, Dave Aylott and Alan Wotherspoon going down 12.17, 10.23 respectively.

In the County Summer Open League Bridport Royals steam rolled their way to a 58.12 win over Dorchester Dynamos.  Baker, Wotherspoon and Burwood put on a five star show to win 31.4, Bob Hill, Paul Hallett and Andy Marsh 27.8 ahead.  Andy Mair, Lee and Phil Godfrey picked up two points for the Scarlets with an 18.17 win at Moonfleet Whites.

Frank Ward, Chris Thorner and Mike Evans - Sylvia's All Stars are the new Leaders of the Club’s Morning League after a 10.8 win over Harriers.  Barry Mapson, Steve Smith and John Burwood's Tigers are second, a 1.3.3 finish giving them an 11.9 win over Kestrels.  Other results: Bandits 14, Five Tops 8.  Devils 15, More Fruits 9.  Strollers 12 Balloons 9. Lotties Lot 14 and Chancers 4.

Malcolm Holt, Thorner and Mike Fletcher's Peanuts head the Evening League after a 13.12 win against Spurs.  Pirates are two points behind after losing 9.10 to Debbie Milton, Huw Rees and Chris Lamble's Optomists.  Other results, More Greens 10 Bubbles 10.  Blythe Spirits 11 Devils 10. Shadows 10, Four Peas in a Pod 13.

7th July

The Club’s Scarlets and Royals teams were again on great form in the Summer County League.  Scarlets took maximum points at home against Moonfleet Greens.  Mel Hargett, Ann Turtell and Sue Walsh thrashing their opponents 33.5, Phil Godfrey, Paul and Mike Fletcher 24.13 up.  Royals had to make do with four points home to Dolphin Rovers, thanks to an 18.12 win by Jackie Godfrey, Bob Hill and Andy Marsh.  Lyn Sandall, Alan Wotherspoon and Jenny Harding going down 13.16.

Brian Baker, Phil Benton and Phil Tattershall's Balloons beat Bandits 14.5 to consolidate top spot in the club's Morning League.  Gordon Lee, Andy Spiller and Paul Hallett's Top Bananas, Chris Thorner, Mike Evans and Mike Fletcher's Sylvia All Stars and Barry Mapson, Steve Fincher and John Burwood's Tigers are two points behind after 17.10, 12.7, 12.7 wins over Chancers, Devils and Harriers respectively.  Paul Ridgeway, Turtell and Adrian Legg's More Fruits beat Lotties Lot 14.5.  Kestrels led Jim Kelly, Janet Tattershall and Ron Hill's Five Tops 13.4, before Hill who is known as a master tactician` changed the mat length to claim a 14.13 win.

Malcolm Holt, Chris Thorner and Fletcher's Peanuts and Brian Earl Sharon Heath and Brian Suffling’s Pirates have a four point lead at the top of the Evening League after 16.7, 15.6 wins over Blythe Spirits and Four Peas in a Pod respectively.  Mary Hansford, Kevin Ackerman and Bob Hill's Spurs head the chasing pack after a 9.8 win over Shadows.  Val Dodd, Den Tapping and Baker's Bubbles beat Optimists 15.13.  Legg, Dave Aylott and Andy Mair's More Greens 12.8 up over Wrong Bias.

30th June

Bridport’s Royals team were on great form in the County Summer Open League, picking up maximum points away against The Dorset Resort (Bere Regis) winning 59.19 overall.  Phil Hedges, Paul Hallett and John Burwood ended 23.13 up.  Brian Baker, Bob Hill and Andy Marsh were unstoppable, recording a 36.6 win. 

With the top four losing, Balloons have soared to the top of the Clubs Morning League again.  Top Bananas, Tigers, Lotties Lot and Sylvias All Stars were beaten by Jackie Godfrey, Malcolm Holt and David Ramsden's Strollers.  Paul Thomas, Arthur Stone and Joe Lofthouse's Devils, Bernard Perry, Jim Collier and Brian Suffling's Kestrels and Joan Elliott, John Davies and Phil Godfrey's Chancers, 13.10, 9.8, 9.8 and 14.10 respectively.  Other results: Five Tops 21, More Fruits 5 Harriers 12, Bandits 9.

Sharon and Les Heath and Phil Hedges' Pirates are now level with the Peanuts at the top of the Evening League after a 15.9 win over Spurs.  Peanuts dropping a four count on the last end to lose 12.11 against Gordon Lee, Alan Wotherspoon and Lofthouse's Devils.  Elaine Marshall, Hargett and Nick Edwards Wrong Bias beat Optimists 17.4.  Peter Spencer-Farr, Phil Tattershall and Jenny Harding's 4 Peas in a Pod and Liz Walker, John Davies and John Corney's Shadows 18.7, 13.8 up over Bubbles and Blythe Spirits respectively.

Bridport's Mixed Friendlies side had a good 75.39 overall win against Dorchester with Lyn Hart, Den Tapping, Dave Aylott and Edwards taking top rink award, winning 27.4.  Penny Pither, Rob Hart, Paul and Mike Fletcher and Mary Hansford, Allen Bird, Ron Hill and Daniel Humphries recording 24.8, 17.12 wins. Hedges  four losing 15.7.

23rd June

The Bridport Scarlets had to make do with two points away to the Dorchester Dingbats in the Summer County Open League, losing a thriller 28.29 overall.  Joe Lofthouse, Phil Godfrey and Mike Fletcher winning 14.13, Mel Hargett, Ann Turtell and Brian Walsh losing 14.16.

Five teams are now tied on fourteen points at the top of the Clubs Morning League.  Gordon Lee, Andy Spiller and Paul Hallett's Top Bananas have the best shot difference after a 19.7 win over The Devils.  Barry Mapson, Steve Fincher and John Burwood's Tigers came from 7.0 down to destroy previous leaders The Balloons 23.10.  Chris McBain, Roy Koerner and Andy Marsh's Lotties Lot opened up with 5.4.3 counts on their way to a 23.4 win over The Harriers.  Adrian Legg, Alison Ridgeway and Chris Everest More Fruits beat Kestrels 16.5.  John Davies, Godfrey and Bob Hill's Chancers and Frank Ward, Chris Thorner and Mike Evans' Sylvia's All Stars recording 17.6, 14.8 wins over Strollers and Five Tops respectively.

Brian Earl, Sharon Heath and Phil Hedges' Pirates were the big winners in the Evening League thumping Blythe Spirits 31.5.  Spurs Drop to third, beaten 13.10 by Val Dodd, Brian Baker and Peter Sandall's Bubbles.  Peter Marshall, Phil Tattershall and Hallett's 4 Peas in a Pod, David Heiden and Koerner's

Bridport's Scarlets and Royals were on great form in the Summer County Open League.  Andy Spiller, Peter Sandall and Mike Fletcher and Mel Hargett, Phil Godfrey and Ann Turtell securing 29.7, 17.12 wins at home for the Scarlets against the Dolphin Rovers for maximum points.  Bob Hill, Paul Hallett and Andy Marsh bringing back four points for the Royals away to Dorchester Dingbats with a 19.14 win.

The Clubs Morning League saw teams playing twice this week and after some incredible close action Balloons lead the way on fourteen points.  Incredibly Top Bananas, Sylvias All Stars, Tigerwoods, Devils and Lotties Lot are just two points behind on twelve with Kestrels, Five Tops and Chancers on Eleven Points.  Great credit must go to League Secretary Peter Hunt for creating such a competitive league.

Chris Thorner, Malcolm Holt and Fletcher's Peanuts top the Evening League after a 17.4 win over the Shadows. Second placed Spurs slipped up losing 14.12 against Hargett, Keven Moys and Nick Edwards Wrong Bias.  Third placed Pirates also beaten 15.7 by Denise Rhodes, Gordon Lee and Joe Lofthouse's Devils.  Other results 4 Peas in a Pod 9 More Greens 8.  Blythe Spirits 18 Bubbles 11.

Bridport's Mixed Friendlies side spent a great afternoon visiting their great friends at Moonfleet winning 69.53 overall.  Chris Barette, David Heiden, Sharon Heath and John Burwood stole the show with a 28.7 win.  Penny Pither, Adrian Legg, Gordon Lee and Nick Edwards won 17.14.  Iris Ashton, Den Tapping,  Heather Thomson and Brian Baker and Bernard Perry, Lorna Wallis, Paul and Mike Fletcher competed well despite going down 12.17, 12.17 respectively.

9th June

Bridport’s Scarlets picked up the maximum points away against the Dorset Bowls Resort in the County Open League with a fine 46.26 overall win.  Andy Mair, Phil Godfrey and Mike Fletcher winning 25.15.  Peter Sandall, Brian Walsh and Ann Turtell 21.11 up.

Chris Thorner, Malcolm Holt and Mike Fletcher's Peanuts beat joint leaders The Pirates 13.11 to open up a two point lead at the top of the Club's Evening League.  Penny Pither, Bob Hill and Keven Ackerman's Spurs jump to second after a 2012 win over More Greens.  Debbit Milton, Sue Winkle and Huw Rees's Optimists picked up the magical maximum count of nine on end six on their way to a 20.9 win over Four Peas in a Pod.  Gordon Lee, Denise Rhodes and Alan Wotherspoon's Devils beat Bubbles 13.10.  Linda Leaf, Keven Rendell and Paul Fletcher's Blyth Spirits 15.10 up over Wrong Bias.

Elaine and Peter Marshall and Heather Thomson's Devils brought down the leading Balloons 20.9 in the Morning League.  Jim Collier, David Heiden and Brian Suffling's Kestrels scored a late six count to beat the Pointless Bandits 15.7 and are now just three points behind The Balloons.  Chris and Colin McBain and Roy Koerner's Lotties Lot, Lee, Thelma Pratt and Paul Hallett's Top Bananas , Peter Varney, Chris Bereatte and Rees's Harriers and Paul Ridgeway, Adrian Legg, Rose Everest More Fruits were 13.7 , 16.11, 12.10 and 8.6 winners over Five Tops, Sylvia's All Stars, Strollers and Chancers respectively.

2nd June

Bridport Royals team were the only side to pick up points this week in the County Open Triples league. Alan Wotherspoon, Paul Hallett and Andy Marsh winning 19.9 against Moonfleet for two points.

Iris Ashton, Brian Baker and Phil Tattershall's Balloons won a last end shoot out against Kestrels 10.8 to hang on to top spot in the Clubs Morning League.  A brilliant take-out wood from Tattershall clinching the win.  Barry Mapson, Steve Fincher and Len Guppy's Tigers are ready to pounce after a 16.4 win over the Pointless Bandits leaving them just two points behind the leaders.  Mel Hargett, Jim Kelly and Ron Hill's Five Tops were 8.8 against Top Bananas before surging to a 19.8 win.  Chris and Colin McBain and Marsh's Lotties Lot, Elaine Marshall, Heather Thomson and Joe Lofthouse's Devils and Frank Ward, Chris Thorner and Mike Fletcher's Sylvia's All Stars 11.4, 13.8 and 13.9 winners over Strollers, Chancers and More Fruits respectively.

Les and Sharon Heath and Brian Suffling's Pirates are now joint leaders of the Evening League after a four, two, one finish gave them 11.7 win over the Shadows. Peanuts still share the lead with Pirates despite being beaten 17.9 by Lyn and Peter Sandall and Baker's Bubbles.  Arthur Stone, Denise Rhodes and Gordon Lee's Devils, Adrian Legg, Roy Koerner and Andy Mairs More Greens and Keven Ackerman, Bob Hill and Marsh's Spurs 19.3, 14.9 and 19.8 up over Wrong Bias, Blythe Spirits and Optimists respectively.

26th May

Bridport Royals picked up maximum points away against Moonfleet in the County Open League, winning 38.21 overall.  Jackie Godfrey, Paul Hallett and John Burwood winning 17.15.  Brian Baker, Phil Hedges and Andy Marsh went on the rampage to thump their opponents 31.6. 

Baker, Alan Wotherspoon and Phil Tattershall's Balloons beat second placed Chancers 17.6 to hold on to top spot in the Club's Summer Morning League.  Barry Mapson, Steve Fincher and John Burwood's Tigers took over second spot with a 11.7 win over More Fruits.  Other results: Kestrels 17 Strollers 11, Lotties Lot 16 Top Bananas 9, Sylvia's All Stars 12 Bandits 9.

Chris Thorner, Malcolm Holt and Mike Fletcher's Peanuts needed a three count on the last end to beat Wrong Bias 14.13 to stay top of the Evening League.  Penny Pither, Keven Ackerman and Bob Hill's Spurs jumped to third, again scoring a three count on the final end to beat Four Peas in a Pod 15.12.  Other results: Bubbles 15 Shadows 8, Optimists 15 Blythe Spirits 9, More Greens 12 Devils 4.

Bridport's Mixed Friendlies side came back with a 73.46 overall win over their great friends at Dorchester with Steve Fincher, Brian Suffling, Phil Godfrey and Mike Fletcher claiming top rink award, winning 23.7. Peter Spencer-Farr, Rob Hart, Jackie Godfrey and Wotherspoon and Lyn Hart, Den Tapping, Baker and Phil Hedges winning 18.9, 16.13 respectively.  Lorna Wallis, Dave Heiden, Dave Aylott and Paul Fletcher going down 16.17.

19th May

Bridport's Royals faced Bridport Scarlets in the first match of their summer county open league programme, ending in a sensational 42.42 draw.  It looked like a runaway win for the Scarlets as Phil Godfrey, Joe Lofthouse and Mike Fletcher led Jackie Godfrey, Bob Hill and Andy Marsh's Royals 25.9 and Mel Hargett, Paul Fletcher and Roger Cowmeadow's Scarlets going 17.8 up against John Burwood, Alan Wotherspoon and Jenny Harding's Royals to leave them twenty five shots ahead before an incredible finish saw Marsh's trio finish with two, one, three counts to finally lose 15.25.  Harding's trio then went onto planet dreamland to score nineteen shots without reply to win 27.17 which included a six count on the final end to leave the Scarlets shell shocked.

Balloons have finally been beaten in the Clubs Summer Morning League, Jim Kelly, Jan Tattershall and Hargett's Five Tops winning 18.9.  Other results Harriers 18 More Fruits 11. Strollers 11 Devils 6.  Lotties Lot 10 Bandits 8.  Tigers 8  Top Bananas 8. Kestrels 9 Chancers 9.

Ron Hill, Keven Rendell and Paul Fletcher's Blythe Spirits recorded their first win in the Evening League with a 20.1 win over Four Peas in a Pod to show they could easily shoot up the table.  Other results: Pirates 15  Bubbles 6.  Peanuts 17  More Greens 5.  Devils 15 Optimists 9.  Shadows 10  Wrong Bias 10.

12th May

Alan Wotherspoon, Phil Benton and Phil Tattershall's Balloons' dream start to the Summer Morning League continued, with an 11.9 win over Harriers, leaving them three points ahead of Joan Elliott, Phil Godfrey and Bob Hill's Chancers, 16.7 winners against Five Tops.  Tops led 7.4 before their wheels fell off.  Elliott brilliant for Chancers on her debut.  Steve Smith, Len Guppy and John Burwood's Tigerwoods stay third beating Strollers 15.6.  Rob and Andy Spiller and Thelma Pratt's  Top Bananas put paid to More Fruits 26.6 thanks to big seven, five, five counts.  Dave Heiden, Brian Suffling and Mike Smith's Kestrels and Peter Marshall, Heather Thomson and Joe Lofthouse's Devils 14.5, 16.8 up over Sylvia's All Stars and Bandits respectively.

Malcolm Holt, Chris Thorner and Mike Fletcher's Peanuts finished 2.1 to beat The Optimists 12.10 to head the  Evening League.  Brian Earl, Suffling and Phil Hedges Pirates stay second 11.6 winners over Wrong Bias.  Penny Pither, Andy Marsh and Hill's Spurs jumped to third after a 15.5 win over Blythe Spirit.  Thomson, John Corney and David Ramsden's Shadows destroyed More Greens 19.2, Elaine and Peter Marshall and Jenny Harding 11.6 up over Devils.

Jackie Godfrey, Bernard Perry, Alison Ridgeway and Jenny Harding's Apples won the Clubs Annual Pie Sunday Drawn Rinks competition with seventy points.  Mel Hargett, Paul Thomas, Brian Suffling and Nick Edwards Oranges taking runner-up spot with sixty eight.  Adrian Legg, Colin McBain, Dave Aylott and John Burwood's Bananas came in third with fifty five points.

5th May

Iris Ashton, Alan Wotherspoon and Phil Tattershall's Balloons now have a three point lead at the top of Bridport Indoor Bowls Club Summer Morning League after a 16.11 win over Sylvia's All Stars.  Balloons went 14.0 up after just four ends before the All Stars got going but they ran out of ends.  Mary Hansford, John Davies and Phil Godfrey's Chancers are second after a 12.8 win against The Tigers who drop to third.  Rob and Andy Spiller and Paul Hallett's Top Bananas thumped The Bandits 28.5.  Peter Varney, Chris Barrette and Huw Rees's Harriers picked up their first points with a 18.4 win over Kestrels.  Lorraine Hill, Janet Tattershall and Mel Hargett's Five Tops and Chris and Colin McBain and Andy Marsh's Lotties Lot 15.9 and 13.7 up over Strollers and Devils respectively.

The top two both lost in the in the Evening League, Peanuts beaten by Peter Spencer-Farr, Phil Tattershall an Jenny Harding's 4 Peas in a Pod 15.12.  Pirates losing 14.10 against Roy Koerner, Adrian Legg and Andy Mair's More Greens.  Hansford, Penny Pither and Marsh's Spurs jump to third spot hammering The Devils 21.8.  Roger Evans, Debbie Milton and Sue Winkle's Optimists 16.7 up over The Shadows's.  Val Dodd, Den Tapping and Peter Sandall's Bubbles defeating Wrong Bias 11.8.  Which incredibly leaves six teams just two points behind the top two after week four.

Week Three of the Summer Morning League left Iris Ashton, Brian Baker and Phil Benton's Balloons soaring above the rest in top spot after a 13.9 win over More Fruits.  Steve Smith, Steve Fincher and John Burwood's Tigerwoods are a point behind after drawing 11.11 with Jim Kelly, Janet Tattershall and Ron Hill's Five Tops.  Frank Ward, Chris Thorner and Mike Fletcher's , Sylvia's All Stars finished with a five count to beat Lotties Lot 12.8.  A one, two, three finish gave Jackie Godfrey, Sandy Peters and David Ramsden's Strollers a 12.10 win over The Bandits.  A one, two finish by Elaine and Peter Marshall and Joe Lofthouse's Devils gave them a 12.9 win over Harriers.  Bernard Perry, Jim Collier and Mike Smith's Kestrell's 16.12 up against Top Bananas.

Richard Bowman-Dyer, Malcolm Holt and Fletcher's Peanuts and Sharon and Les Heath's and Phil Hedges Pirates share top spot in the Evening League after 20.6, 12.8 wins over Spurs and No Name respectively.  Lyn and Peter Sandall and Baker's Bubbles picked up their first points with a 19.9 win over More Greens.  Heather Thomson, John Davies and Ramsden's Shadows beat Four Peas in a Pod 14.5.  Denise Rhodes, Gordon Lee and Lofthouse's Devils edging home 9.8 against Blythe Spirits.

Week two of the Summer Morning League saw Alison Ridgeway and Rose and Chris Everest’s More Fruits, Steve Smith, Len Guppy and John Burwood's Tigerwoods and Brian Baker, Alan Wotherspoon and Phil Tattershall's Balloons keep up their winning starts.  More Fruits and Tigerwoods 11.4, 10,7 up over Devils and Kestrels respectively.  Balloons drew their match with Strollers 11.11 but were given the two points as Strollers fielded an ineligible player.  A five count on the last end gave Jim Kelly, Mel Hargett and Ron Hill's Five Tops a 13.12 win over Bandits.  Mike Evans, Chris Thorner and Mike Fletcher's Sylvia's All Stars were on great form thumping Harriers 23.1.  Mary Hansford, John Davies and Bob Hill's Chancers 15.7 up over Lotties Lot.

Week one of Bridport’s Summer Morning League saw Bernard Perry, who celebrates his 93rd birthday on April 17th, David Heiden and Mike Smith's Kestrels, Adrian Legg and Rose and Chris Everest's More Fruits, Brian Baker, Phil Tattershall and Phil Benton's Balloons, Paul Thomas, Peter Marshall and Joe Lofthouse's Devils and Steve Smith, Steve Fincher and Len Guppy's Tigerwoods open up with 17.6, 14.7, 11.5 and 14.12 wins over Five Tops, Lotties Lot, Bandits, Sylvia's All Stars and Harriers respectively.  Gordon Lee, Andy Spiller and Paul Hallett's Top Bananas drawing with Mary Hansford, Phil Godfrey and Bob Hill's Chancers 9.9.

In the Evening League Elaine Marshall, Mel Hargett and Nick Edwards Wrong Bias, Tattershall, Jenny Harding and Hallett's Four Peas in a Pod, Lorna Wallis, John Corney and David Ramsden's Shadows, Sharon and Les Heath and Phil Hedges' Pirates and Richard Bowman-Dyer, Malcolm Holt and Chris Thorner's Peanuts opening up with 15.5, 13.7, 16.10, 17.8 and 9.5 wins over No Name, Bubbles, Blythe Spirits, Spurs and Devils respectively.

Bridport's Mixed Friendly's side were on sensational record-breaking form as they thumped their great friends from Dorchester 101.39 overall.  Wallis, Heiden, Allen Bird and Daniel Humphries led the way winning 33.5.  Ron Hill, Lee, Heather Thomson and Godfrey 30.8 up.  Penny Pither, Peter Spencer-Parr, Paul Fletcher and Edwards posting a 22.9 win which included a "hot shot" maximum eight count.  Alan Wotherspoon's four going down 16.17.

7th April

Bridport's last week of mid season Spoons Competition saw David Ramsden take top spot with 71 points, forty points on Game Three pushing Mary Hansford down to second place on 68.  Ron Hill took third place with 55 points.  Paul Hallett came fourth on 50 points.  Alan Wotherspoon and Brian Baker shared fifth spot on 49 points.  Wotherspoon had only scored 3 points after two games, before an incredible 46 points on game three catapulted him up the table.  John Burwood claimed seventh place on 46.  Chris Everest eigth with 45.  Phillip Pyfinch took ninth on 43.  Andy Marsh completing the top ten with 42.  Adrian Legg and Bob Hill just missing out on the prizes finishing on 41.  Brian Suffling, Thelma Pratt, Phil Tattershall, Brian Pratt, Kim Thomas, Gordon Lee, Lorna Wallis, Pauling Ramsden, John Corney and Allen Bird all finished in the credible thirties.  Sandra Barette, Bernard Perry and Chris Barette in the twenties.  Linda Leaf, Rob Spiller and Iris Ashton recorded 18.16 and 14 points respectively.  Den Tapping picking up the wooden spoon on 10  points.

31st March

Bridport Indoor Bowls Club mid  season Spoons Competition saw Mary Hansford top week one with 72 points.  Jim Collier came runner-up with 53, the ninety three year old Bernard Perry coming joint third on 52, tying with Andy Spiller.  Dave Ramsden took fifth spot on 50.  Lorraine Hill and Rob Spiller shared sixth and seventh on 45.  Iris Ashton came eighth with 41 points.  Pauline Ramsden ninth on 40.  Kim Thomas completing the top ten with 37 points.

An incredible 58 points on the third end saw Gordon Lee top week two with 74 points.  Mike Craddock taking ru-up spot with 70.  Bob Hill took third place on 69.  Dave Aylott finished in forth on 64.  Ron Hill came fifth with 60.  Hansford sixth on 59.  Jim Collier again making the top ten with 57 for seventh spot.  Chris Thorner eighth on 49.  Phil Hedges ninth with 46.  Tenth place going to Heather Thomson on 41.

Bridport's Mixed Friendlies side recorded a 72.56 overall win over Sutton & District Touring Side (South London).  Lorna Wallis, Rob Hart, Dave Aylott and Daniel Humphries were top rink winning 29.13.  David Heiden, Gordon Lee, Richard Bowman-Dyer and Mary Hansford 19.11 up.  Bernard Perry, Den Tapping, Jackie Godfrey and Alan Wotherspoon drew 15.15, Ron Hill, Lyn Hart, Brian Suffling and Phil Godfrey going down 9.17.

Against Madeira (Exmouth) Lorraine Hill, Bowman-Dyer and Humphreys were top trio, coming from 6.9 down to win 29.10.  Perry, Brian Suffling and Roger Gale 24.7 up.  Wallis, Heiden and Wotherspoon losing 11.13, Ron Hilll, Tapping and Hansford were 9.3 ahead before crashing to a 15.23 defeat leaving Bridport 78.53 winners overall.

25th March

This weekend saw an exciting program of finals competitions taking place over 3 days. Many members came down to show their support and watch some excellent bowls being played. A big thank you goes to the umpires, markers and catering team but, especially, to Liz Walker for organising and managing the whole event. For the full results, check out the results page.

March 11th

Bridport’s Men’s over 60's A team are through to the semi-final playoff stage of the County over 60's league despite losing their last match at home to Moonfleet A 34.39 overall.  Bridport taking two points, Moonfleet taking four.  Phil Hedges, Paul Hallett and John Burwood had a nightmare afternoon, slumping to a 7.26 defeat, Adrian Leg, Andy Marsh and Mike Fletcher saving the day with a 27.13 win.  Bridport will now play the winners of Section B at Moonfleet for a place in the final.

Bridport's mixed friendlies side played host to the Chard Outdoor Bowling Club for the first time and both Clubs enjoyed the match so much it will now become and annual fixture.  Ron Hill, Sue Winkle and Daniel Humphries took top triple award, a late four and seven counts giving them a 33.7 win.  Lorna Wallis, Brian Pratt and Alan Wotherspoon finished with a six count for a 27.9 win.  A two, four finish by Lorraine Hill, Phil Godfrey and Brian Rumble saw them record a 28.7 win.  Bernard Perry, Gordon Lee and Jackie Godfrey were 20.5 ahead at the tea interval, finally winning 26.22.  Leaving Bridport 114.43 up overall.

March 4th

Bridport Indoor Bowls Clubs Ladies team ended their county league fixtures with a fine 52.19 overall home win against East Dorset (Avon), to finish in third sport.  Pamela Daters, Laura Taylor, Lyn Craddock and Helen Dowling roared to a 28.9 win.  Lyn Sandall, Jackie Godfrey, Ann Turtell and Sue Walsh also recorded a fine 24.10 win.

Bridport's mixed friendly's side travelled to Weymouth to play Moonfleet 2000 to contest the Peter Drage Memorial Trophy for the first time.  The trophy was donated by the Drage family to remember the many years Peter enjoyed playing against Bridport in what is the County's oldest friendlies fixture.  Moonfleet picked up the trophy winning 76.44 overall.  Ron Hill, Den Tapping, Jackie Godrey and John Burwood were Bridport's only winning rink recording a 17.15 win, despite dropping seven shots over the last five ends.  Penny Pither, Gordon Lee, Brian Suffling and Brian Baker picked up a four count on the final end to secure a deserved 13.13 draw.  Lorna Wallis, Richard Bowman-Dyer, David Aylott and Phil Godfrey and Bernard Perry, David Heiden, Heather Thomson and Nick Edwards finding the opposition too hot too handle as they lost 9.21, 5.27 respectively.

February 25th

Bridport’s Ladies team put up a good fight away to the Dolphin Opals in the County League before losing 38.40 overall.  Pamela Daters, Nicky Driscoll, Lyn Craddock and Helen Dowling came from 5.8 down to win 17.11 for two points.  Jackie Godfrey, Laura Taylor, Ann Turtell and Sue Walsh going down 11.19.

In the County Mixed league, Bridport finished on a high with a 49.20 overall win at home against Moonfleet.  Nick Edwards, Barry Driscoll, Ann Turtell and Mike Fletcher destroying their opponents 33.5, Mel Hargett, Nicky Driscoll and Sue and Brian Walsh winning 16.15. 

Bridport’s mixed friendly side faced outdoor club Queen Camel, winning 75.34 overall.  Lyn Hart, Jackie Godfrey and Daniel Humphries took top triple award with a 21.6 win.  Denise Rhodes, Rob Hart and Mary Hansford won 21.9.  Penny Pither, Brian Pratt and Richard Bowman-Dyer picked up a three count on the last end to record a 21.18 win.   David Heiden, Debbie Milton and Phil Godfrey picking up a one count on their last end for a 12.11 win.

February 18th

Bridport’s Ladies team took maximum points at home against the Dorset Resort (Bere Regis) in the County League, winning 36.25 overall.  Dorset Resort have only scored four points this year, but they put up a spirited show before losing 14.17 to Joan Griffiths, Liz Walker, Ann Turtell and Sue Walsh's rink.  Sharon Heath, Francis Hewett, Lyn Craddock and Helen Dowling winning 20.12.

Bridport C missed out on a semi-final play-off spot in the County Over 60's league after losing 23.35 overall at home to Moonfleet D.  Mike Craddock, Barry Driscoll and Barry Rattenbury won 19.11 for two points.  Moonfleet took the remaining four points as Roger Gale, Brian Walsh and Bob Taylor went down 4.24.

Bridport’s mixed friendly side edged an exciting encounter with neighbours Dorchester winning 62.60 overall, with two ends left Dorchester led 58.50 overall before Bridport produced a superb turnaround.  Lorna Wallis, Stever Fincher, Richard Bowman Dyer and Phil Godfrey took top rink award, a big six count giving them a 23.14 win.  Phillip Pyfinch, Penny Pither, Brian Pratt and Mary Hansford won 16.10.  Sandie Peters, Rob Hart, Den Tapping and Phil Hedges went 1.10 down early on but a fighting 2.4 finish gave them a final 14.20 defeat.  David Heiden, Ron Hill, Jackie Godfrey and Nick Edwards also finished well with 1.2 counts to record a 9.16 loss.

February 11th

Bridport’s County Mixed side picked up another maximum points with a 39.25 overall win at home to Dorchester. Mel Hargett, Brian Pratt, Peter Hunt and Ann Turtell were 7.7 after eleven ends but their opponents only scored one more shot, Turtell's quartet winning 18.8. Lyn and Peter Sandall, Nick Edwards and Mike Fletcher were trailing 15.17, before a one, five finish gave them a 21.17 win.

Bridport A made hard work early on in their home match against Dolphin A in the County Over 60's league before taking total control to record a 45.24 overall win. Adrian Legg, Andy Marsh and Mike Fletcher were 7.11 down, finally winning 25.13. Phil Hedges, Paul Hallett and John Burwood trailed 8.9, finally winning 20.11.

Bridport C went to the Dorset Resort (Bere Regis) for what they thought was a 12 o'clock start, Dorset Resort had it booked for a 10 o'clock start - so the points situation will be decided when the League Secretary returns from holiday. Bridport B took four points at home against Moonfleet. Mike Cash, Alan Wotherspoon and Joe Lofthouse winning 24.6 for the points.

Bridport's mixed friendly side won three of the four rinks to beat Chardstock 61.50 overall, Bernard Perry, Den Tapping, Richard Bowman-Dyer and Mary Hansford took top rink award winning 16.7. Penny Pither, Lyn Hart, Chris Thorner and Bob Hill won 18.16, a four count on the last end gave Lorna Wallis, Rob Hart, Gordon Lee and Nick Edwards a 15.14 win. Sandie Peters, David Heiden, Heather Thomson and Brian Suffling lost a last end shoot out 12.13.

February 4th

Bridport's A team are now in pole position in section A of the County Over 60's league to claim a semi final play off spot against the winners or runners-up of section B after a 41.29 overall win over Bridport C. The C team led early on as Mike Craddock, John Maslen and Barry Rattenbury went 7.2 ahead against Phil Hedges, Paul Hallett and John Burwood and Arthur Stone, Brian Walsh and Bob Taylor 6.1 up against the Barrack Street Boys of Brian Baker, Adrian Legg and Andy Marsh.

Marsh's trio then went on the rampage to record a 29.13 win, Burwood's trio going on to lose 12.16 to give the A team four points and the C team two points. Bridport B came back with two points from Wellworthy Mike Cash, Alan Wotherspoon and Brian Suffling securing a comfortable win.

Bridport's mixed friendly's side won two of the four triples at home to Yeovil despite losing 50.74 overall. Iris Ashton, Mike Cash and Daniel Humphries and Sandie Peters, Brian Pratt and Mary Hansford winning 17.14, 15.14 respectively. Against Stour Vale Bridport again lost overall but won two of the four rinks. Den Tapping, Phillip Pyfinch, Gordon Lee and Nick Edwards won 18.15 and Denise Rhodes, Steve Fincher, Richard Bowman-Dyer and Phil Godfrey won 13.12. Lorna Wallis, Rob Hart, Brian Pratt and Daniel Humphries were 8.8 before losing 8.15. Lyn Hart, David Heiden, Jackie Godfrey and Alan Wotherspoon never got going against some tough opposition to lose by eight.

January 2024

January 28th

Bridport Men’s C team came out on top of a thriller away to Moonfleet D in the County Over 60's league, winning 32.31 overall. It all rested on the final end. Mike Craddock, Brian Rumble and Barry Rattenbury trailed 15.16 whilst Barry Driscoll, Chris Everest and Bob Taylor were 12.15 down. Rattenbury's trio finished with a two count to win 17.16. Taylor's trio picked up a three count to draw 15.15. Leaving Bridport with five of the available six points.

Bridport B picked up maximum points at home to Moonfleet C. Brian Suffling, Dave Aylott and Colin Warnett came from 8.14 down to win 18.16. Mel Hargett, Alan Wotherspoon and Roger Cowmeadow 13.10 up.

Bridport Ladies are through to the next round of the County Knock-Out cup competition after a 39.31 overall win over East Dorset's B team. Pamela Daters, Laura Taylor, Lyn Craddock and Sue Walsh losing 13.22 away, Jackie Godfrey, Nicky Driscoll, Ann Turtell and Helen Dowling overwhelming their opponents 26.9 at home.

In the County Mixed League Bridport came back from the Dolphin with maximum points after a fine 49.16 overall win. Lyn Sandall, Phil Godfrey, Nick Edwards and Paul Fletcher winning 31.7 whilst Jackie Godfrey, Peter Sandall and Sue and Brian Walsh completed the job at 18.9.

January 21st

Bridport Indoor Bowls Clubs Ladies team are rocketing up the County League after taking maximum points away to Dolphin Sapphires. Jackie Godfrey, Liz Walker, Laura Taylor and Sue Walsh took top rink award winning 20.9. Francis Hewett, Nicky Driscoll, Lyn Craddock and Helen Dowling 22.18 up.

In the Men's County over 60's league, Bridport C picked up four of the six available points with a 36.32 overall win at home against Moonfleet A.

Arthur Stone, Roger Gale and Brian Rumble lost 12.25. Mike Craddock, John Maslen and Barry Rattenbury thumped their opponents 24.7 for the points. Bridport A picked up two points away to Dorchester A thanks to a 21.16 win by Phil Hedges, Paul Hallett and John Burwood. Adrian Legg, Bob Hill and Andy Marsh just missing out as they dropped a three count on the final end to lose 15.21 - giving Dorchester the remaining four points.

January 14th

Bridport Indoor Bowls Clubs Ladies team had a fine 37.27 overall win against the Dolphin Opals in their home County League match. It was mixed fortunes for the Bridport Rinks - Pamela Daters, Nicky Driscoll, Lyn Craddock and Helen Dowling losing 10.20 to a crack four. Jackie Godfrey, Liz Walker, Ann Turtell and Sue Walsh romping home 27.7 to claim six of the available eight points.

In the Men's County over Sixty's League Bridport ‘A’ recorded a 43.18 win away to the Dorset Resort. Barry Mapson, David Baker and Andy Marsh went 15.0 up after nine ends finally winning 24.8. Len Guppy, Paul Hallett and John Burwood also had a great start to lead 9.0 after six ends, it was nip and tuck over the remaining twelve ends, as Burwood posted a 19.10 win. Bridport ‘C’ also took the maximum six points in their match home to Dorchester ‘A’. Chris Everest, Brian Walsh and Bob Taylor winning 15.10. Roger Gale, Barry Driscoll and Barry Rattenbury were trailing 9.13 after eleven ends but in a remarkable turn around, Dorchester never scored again as Rattenbury's trio went on to win 24.13.

Bridport Mixed Friendlies side came back from Dorchester with a 70.64 overall win. Denise Rhodes, Den Tapping, Daniel Humphries and Alan Wotherspoon took top rink award winning 25.10. Lorna Wallis, Steve Fincher, Brian Suffling and Brian Baker won 17.16. Chris Thorner, Dave Heiden, Richard Bowman-Dyer and Nick Edwards lost 15.17. Bernard Perry, Ron Hill, Dave Aylott and Roger Gale going down 13.21 after leading 12.9.

Lyn Craddock, Pamela Daters and Helen Dowling were in the Dorset squad who reached the semi-final of the National Atherley Cup competition after a four shot overall win against Hampshire.

January 7th

Bridport started the New Year with their annual fun spoons competition. A full house of thirty two players took part. Adrian Legg was crowned champion with a total sixty nine points. Andy Spiller shared second spot with Mary Hansford on sixty eight points. Spiller had only scored ten points after two games but an incredible fifty eight points on game three saw him almost catch Legg who finished with twenty eight points in his final game. Chris Everest took fourth spot on fifty points. Fifth went to Phil Godfrey with forty seven, just piping Phil Hedges and Rob Hart on forty six. New member's Den Tapping and Kevin Ackerman shared eight place on forty five points. Thelma Pratt completing the top ten with forty three points. Chris Thorner just missed out on the top ten prizes, finishing on forty two points. Dawn Greenfield, Sandy Peters, Gordon Lee and Bernard Perry finished with credible scores in the thirties. Janet Harris, Lorna Wallis and Frank Ward who have just finished their Beginners course also did well to score high twenty scores.

In the County Mixed League Bridport picked up six of the available eight points at Dorchester. Mel Hargett, Nicky Driscoll, Mike Craddock and Brian Walsh suffered a narrow defeat, Sharon Heath, Barry Driscoll, Peter Hunt and Ann Turtell securing the overall win.
